Rescuers Save This Neglected Cat From A Basement After Finding Him Trapped In His Own Fur

When elderly friends and relatives have pets, its just as important for us to check up on the animals as it is the people. As folks age, they often become unable to properly care for their pets, and unfortunately, this situation frequently goes unnoticed for far too long.

That’s what precisely happened with Sinbad the cat. His elderly owner couldn’t care for him, but by the time rescuers were tipped off about it, he’d been trapped in a very hairy situation for quite some time.

Last month, workers from Chicago’s Anti-Cruelty Society rescued Sinbad the cat from his elderly owner who had been unable to care for the feline for some time — as evidenced by Sinbad’s shocking amount of matted, dirty fur.

Thankfully, Sinbad’s owner agreed that the cat would be better off elsewhere, and the society members began planning how to keep the poor kitty calm while they got to work shaving his mass of fur…

Luckily, Sinbad was cooperative, and once he realized what was happening, he seemed to give himself over the process. Slowly but surely, a cute little guy emerged from underneath the tangled mess.

It took two sittings each lasting a couple hours to get all of his hair shaved. When the task was finally complete, they’d taken off about five pounds of fur, and Sinbad was completely unrecognizable!

At first, he was extremely sensitive to temperature and to touch, so they got him a little shirt to keep him from feeling so exposed. He also had to relearn to walk on his hind legs, which had been so trapped in fur that he used to drag them behind him.

After his haircut, the Anti-Cruelty Society placed him with Elliot Serrano, who planned to foster the cat until a more permanent arrangement could be made. However, Elliot fell in love with the little guy and decided to adopt him outright!

In just a few short weeks, Sinbad was looking healthier than ever, and was loving his new home. He had been very quiet and reserved, but his playful personality began to come out — even if his permanently grumpy expression didn’t always make it seem that way!

Sinbad has come a long way from the days when he was just a timid, scared cat who could barely move. Now he’s healthy, well-groomed, and thriving in a loving home!
